You Got Your Period Right Before Your Boudoir Shoot | Santa Ana, California Boudoir Photographer

January 12, 2026

Take a big ole’ breath girlie.

I cannot tell you how many messages I get that start with massive panic:

“I just started my period and my shoot is tomorrow!!!!!”
“MY PERIOD SHOWED UP… should I reschedule?”
“Period here, dying, feeling bloated, gross, what the fuck do I do?!?”

Stop panicking baby girl.

Your period didn’t make you all of a sudden unphotographable. It doesn’t mean your session is going to suck now. It certainly doesn’t mean you are fucked.

Your period doesn’t affect shit.

I know that’s not what your brain wants to hear when you’re crampy, bloated, and feeling off and craving the shit out of chocolate, but I promise you, from someone who has photographed hundreds of bodies in every phase of life, this is not the emergency you think it is.

Let’s talk about the biggest fear I hear… BLOAT.

Yep, hormones can make you feel puffier.
Yes, your jeans might feel tighter.
No, that does not translate to “I’m going to look like puffy mcpufferson”
Bloat does absolutely nothing against a photographer who knows what the fuck she’s doing.

Your uterus in not in charge of how you are going to look and feel in your photos.
You feeling bloated and you looking bloated in photos are two completely different things.

And here’s the part most people don’t realize… you are always more aware of your body than anyone else in the room.
Especially me. I’m not zoomed in on your stomach. I’m focused on your energy, your movement, your genuine laughter at my awesome dance moves, your twinkle in your eye when it clicks and you start to feel sexy for once in your life.

Now let’s chat about the other fear people don’t always say out loud. The logistics.

Yes, you can do a shoot with Mother Nature around, yes it’s 100% normal, and yep it’s easier than you may think.

Bring a tampon or diva cup. That’s it. That’s the plan.

If I need to tuck a tampon string, I will (I’ve done it before). If I need to adjust your outfit, I will. If you need a quick bathroom break, then get your ass to the bathroom, queen. It’s not dramatic or inconvenient, it’s just life.

There’s something to say about showing up ANYWAY, even with the details not being aligned and perfect. You don’t have to wait for the stars to align, your hormones to be right where you want them to be, and your body doesn’t need to magically be ‘perfect’ to fit the best ideal situation… life doesn’t work that way!

Boudoir is not about perfection. It never has been.

Boudoir is about TRUST. Trust in me as the professional to walk you through the best fucking experience you’ve ever had.

If your period shows up, here’s what to do:

Stop panicking.
Drink some water.
Pack your bag.
Bring a tampon.
Show up.

I’ve got you, and I promise I won’t let go.

You’ll wonder why you were so scared in the first place after you dive in. So stop making excuses and get your butt in here.
