Boudoir has truly caught fire, and it’s becoming so much more popular and well known… which is AWESOME… but that comes also with a lot of confusion surrounding how to find not only a GOOD Boudoir Photographer, but one that fits YOU.
I’m here to guide you, and although I would LOVE for ME to be the one for you, I truly just want to help you find the best person for YOU.
Let’s go through how to narrow down and hone in on amazing photographers!

ONE; Get real about what you truly want
Start to think about your ‘WHY’ – Why do you want a Boudoir Photoshoot?
Is it because you want to try something new and have fun? Is it to heal a part of you? Is it to finally reclaim your body after something traumatic?
Are you craving something bold, fierce, maybe even spicy? Or something raw and soft, like you’re mid-laugh and half undressed but totally yourself?
Your intent drives every shot.
The best photographers can read that energy but if you don’t know what you want, you’ll end up with someone else’s version of sexy instead of your own.
Also, huge PAUSE HERE…. your “why” doesn’t need to be deep or poetic.
“Because I want to remember this version of me” is enough.
“Because I’m done hiding parts of myself to make other people comfortable” is more than enough.
Your reason doesn’t need to be a life story or a huge deal, it can simply be “to see myself in a positive light”
TWO; Learn how to read a portfolio
[First thing to make sure is that their work is CONSISTENT.]
Meaning, all of their photos have the same style (dark and moody, or light and airy). If you see a portfolio with a mix of both, RUN.
That could mean 1 of 3 things…
- They are new and are experimenting and don’t really know what they are doing
- They have several photographers that work underneath the business name, in which you may not know who your photographer will be the day of your session
- They steal photos from other photographers websites and use them on your own and you are about to get scammed.
The next thing to look out for is
[Look past the surface]
You want to look at the posing in the photos, do the women look stiff? Uncomfortable? Like they don’t know what they are doing? Deer in headlights?
That is a tell tale sign that the photographer doesn’t know how to pose you or DOESN’T pose you.
Either the photographer is just after your money and will only to the bare minimum or they are newer and don’t know how to pose you.
[Can you see yourself in their work?]
Can you see your body type in their work? Now, we are limited to the women who choose to book us, but if we are professionals who have been in the industry for a good amount of time, we will have all sorts of women book us in that timeframe.
Look for women in their portfolio that are around your age, size, and style!
[Can you FEEL their work?]
Do the photos evoke an emotion in you? Do they make you stop and think? Do they stir up anything deep inside you?
THREE; It’s not just about pretty pictures… what about the other things?
- Reviews and testimonials – What are people saying about their experience with them?
- Communication – If it takes a week for them to get back to your first inquiry, that’s a problem! It should be 24-72 hours response times.
- Studio and safety – Do you see their studio online, showcased? Is it clean, private, welcoming?
- Editing – This one is HUGE. How heavy handed are they in editing? Are they going to completely manipulate your body, and make your skin look like it’s been heavily caked with makeup? Make sure you are taking this into consideration!
FINAL THOUGHTS
Finding the perfect Boudoir Photographer for you isn’t going with the cheapest or most popular.
It’s about finding the right fit for you. Someone who GETS you. Someone who CARES about you. Someone who CELEBRATES you. Someone who makes you feel warm, fuzzy and like you are the most beautiful woman in the world.
