20/20 Vision for 2020 | Orange County Boudoir Photographer

January 24, 2020

At the end of 2019 I was practically living in the scene from Spiderman with Toby McGuire and “Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head”. He was much more graceful than I, even when he tripped flat on his face.
I was having a self pity party, and I felt like my world was caving in.
You can read all about it here; I don’t think I’m cut out for this anymore.

Then 2020 came into view.
I don’t know what it is about the number 2020 but it represents MORE of a clean slate than any other year. Is it the even number? Is it the fact that all I see is 20/20 vision? Is it because it’s the beginning of a new decade?
Whatever it may be, I’m here for it, and I’m ready to completely kill it.

So, what are my goals for the new year and new decade?

ONE; ME TIME

On the top of my list is to prioritize my time.  Growing up, the only priorities I had were very one-sided; anything that I wanted for myself personally was The Priority.  Then I grew up and started my own business and work became The Priority.  Now I realize that life has to strike a balance between the two.  I have spend countless hours coaching other women that they need to make time in their busy lives for themselves, but somehow missed the mark when it came to my own life.  The old saying “all work and no play”…Well, that’s me. So 2020 is the year that I listen to what I preach and schedule time for myself, my family and friends, and for my business, knowing that I cannot thrive without all three.

TWO; ORGANIZE MY LIFE

I started this year off by creating a “flow chart” of my business.  In this chart are the elements that make up everything that we do to create an experience for our clients that we can be proud of.  This chart is a work in progress, and throughout the year I will be adding to it and making changes that will enhance both the experience and quality of our Boudoir shoots.  A smart business owner once told me that the day you think there is nothing more that can be done to improve your business is the day that you should close. That being said, I’ve got a long way to go. 😉

THREE; GOOOOOAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLL

See what I did there? Soccer.
Daily, weekly, quarterly… I have begun setting goals for myself, my studio, and my team. In the past, I have set unrealistic goals for myself only to be discouraged when I could not achieve them.  The difference this time around is that the goals are well thought out and obtainable. They are organized and then prioritized. Some require nothing more than a commitment to constantly be focused on posting new photos to the website and updating social media content to keep things fresh and ever-changing.  Others are long term goals that will require patience and diligence to achieve.

FOUR; PUT ME IN COACH

One thing I have wanted to do for a long time, and finally decided to, is to hire a business coach.  Another fresh set of eyes to give new suggestions and insights that I might not otherwise have thought of.  I’m really excited to learn and to grow and this seemed the next logical step to help me accomplish all of the things I have set out to do. It takes a strong part of me to admit I need help every once in a while. I’m here to serve my clients the best way I can, and I will always be taking the necessary steps in order to do just that.
