I’m too old | Orange County Boudoir Photographer

March 22, 2019

“I’m too old for boudoir.”

I hear this more often than not from potential clients trying to convince me that they are “too old” to do their own session.

To this I say, BULLSHIT.

First of all, we’ve had many clients walk in to our studio, killed their session and gained some sass and confidence on the way who were 50+

Most mature client to date: 89 years old.

Yes, although I am completely sad that she didn’t sign a model release so I cannot show her images, I just remember her session as being a reminder to herself that no matter what, no matter how old, no matter what color your skin is, no matter how tall/ short you might be, that you are a unique individual with your own beauty.

I’m sorry, but I’m going to find, and punch whoever was the first person to say “you are too old for boudoir”

Sadly enough, I’ve heard this come from other photographers mouths to their potential clients. YES. Other boudoir photographers have put an age limit on their clients. And for what? So their work remains within the 20-35 year old client?

Now, that’s all fine and dandy if you want an age limit on your sessions and that is what you specialize in. I, by no means, believe that everyone in the world needs to cater to every type of woman out there.

Look at Torrid, they cater to curvier women and that’s it. I love that. I think it’s awesome that they have a niche!

Look at Brandy Melville, they cater strictly to a “one size” crowd, which happens to be XS or pre-teens because everyone knows maybe I can fit ONE boob into their tops, but that’s it.

Exclusivity is fine with me, technically I do it, by only photographing women and couples, but not ONLY men.

The problem I have is not with the fact that you cater to one group. My problem is that you tell the others that don’t land within these guidelines that they are not suitable for it.

THIS IS WHERE I GET UPSET.

All women, in my opinion, are capable, and perfectly suitable for their own boudoir experience. 50 years old? ROCK IT. 60 years old? KILL IT. 70 years old? YOU’VE GOT THIS. 80 years old? PROVE THEM ALL WRONG. 90 years old? YOU’RE MY HERO.

Babes, no matter your age, you are beautiful. It doesn’t magically get ripped away from you at a certain age. It’s something that you will have for your entire life.

So stop giving into the lies that you aren’t worthy because you are a certain age.

You hold just as much power over your self love as a 20, 30, 40 year old woman.

It’s never too late for your own session. Ever.

I can’t believe other photographers would turn away clients like that 😮
I’ve only ever been in Alyssa’s Facebook group, so all I know is how to love all ages, sizes, shapes, and colors! This only cemented the choice I made when picking a photographer even if it means I have to cross two states to do it!
