The story of our love | Personal | Orange County Boudoir Photographer

August 9, 2017

It all started when my dad asked me a really out of the blue question, “Hey Lyss, will you take me to Starbucks?”

The reason this was strange, is because my dad NEVER grabs a late night Starbucks. It’s always a morning or early afternoon treat, so for this day, it was already odd.

It was 8:40pm, and I remember thinking to myself, ‘they are going to hate us, they close in 20 minutes’.

We hop in my car, I’m driving with my dad in the passenger side seat, and my sister in the back seat.

We pull up at 8:45ish and the voice in the box responded, “Hi there, welcome to Starbucks, what would you like tonight?” – I remember thinking how nice and genuine he sounded.

And then… sheer panic kicked in.

Have you ever seen someones face, or hear their voice, and thought to yourself, ‘SHIT. I should know his/ her name. I’ve seen them before, and I’m pretty sure he/ she introduced himself last time, what the hell is his name!’?

It’s not a good feeling.

So my investigative instincts popped into my head, THINK ALYSSA THINK… How will you get him to tell you his name without revealing that you don’t actually know it?

*lightbulb*

As we pull up to the window, and I see his smiling face hand us our drinks, I say “Hey, we should totally be friends on Facebook, what is your Facebook name?!”

Insert wiping off my shoulders like a gangster.

“That’s awesome! It’s Killian Tynan Beason!”

It was in that moment that I realized I never knew this kids name. I could have sworn he was a Zach.

I told him that I would friend request him when I got home and we waved goodbye.

Not even two seconds later after pulling out of the drive thru, *BING*.

Killian has sent you a friend request.

When I got home, I looked at my phone to see a message from him, “Oh wow, I had no idea you were a photographer! I’m an artist too! I would love to learn a new form of art, and pick your brain! Would you want to hang out sometime?!”

I don’t know what it was about him, but he was damn charming.

“I would love to! When are you free?”

Then he said something a little out of my comfort zone: “I’m actually free all day tomorrow, is that too soon?”

I took a giant leap of faith, and just said yes!

The next day, we met up early, in San Juan Capistrano, grabbed an iced coffee from Hidden House and I handed him my second back up camera. I told him that I would love to teach him how to use the camera.

We took photos of everything as we walked around the cute little street of Los Rios.

As the day went on, we talked about ourselves, where we were in life, etc. I found out the he was about 3.5 years younger than me, but that didn’t stop me from starting to genuinely like him.

It’s arguable that I may have fallen in love with him that exact day that we hung out for the first time.

After than beautiful day, we saw each other every single day after.

That night at Starbucks was December 5th, 2013.

He asked me on December 24th, 2013 to be his girlfriend. I said “No.” Now I know what you are thinking, ‘Alyssa, what the hell! He’s the love of your life, why did you say no?!’

My thought process was that yes, I loved him, but we barely knew each other. I didn’t want to jump into a relationship right away.

To this day, Kill will tell you that he respected me so much more the minute I said ‘no’, because he realized that I was responsible, and that he was jumping into it because his feelings were overwhelming. I told him to ask me again in a month, after we get to know each other better.

We spent every single day together, again. He asked me in a month and I said yes this time.

He told me a few months into dating that he used to tell him co-workers every single day at work before he met me, “One day, I’m going to meet the love of my life, through the drive thru window, guys!” and with that premonition, he did.

We are getting close to the 4 year mark, and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with him.

Below are the photographs that Killian took the first day that we hung out on our photo escapade:
